PRO-Europe s.p.r.l. (Brussels), owner and general licensor for the Green Dot trademark, assigned the license to administer the use of the trademark in Canada, the United States and Mexico to StewardEdge in September 2009.
The license has been granted to StewardEdge "to protect the integrity of the 'green dot' trademark as an international symbol of a company's commitment to protecting the environment."
StewardEdge is an independent company established in May 2009 through the transfer of all staff and assets of CSR, whose members were some of the largest consumer products companies and retailers in Canada. The mission of StewardEdge is to provide design, implementation and management services for industry led product stewardship programs throughout Canada and the United States.
StewardEdge administers the license through Green Dot North America which was established to oversee the work of licensing users of the 'green dot' in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Green Dot North America is responsible for ensuring that the companies selling or distributing products in North America that carry the Green Dot are authorized to use the trademark there.
